ボトムスデザインとサルエルパンツ

Bottoms Design and Sarouel Pants

Neglecting your pants makes them look cheap

There are countless types of bottoms in the world, and their silhouettes gradually change with trends. Many delicate lines exist, where a small difference determines whether something is modern or not.

I really love bottom designs. Other designers often find this unusual.

Many people seem to find them boring because there's little you can do with them, but I consider them a very important design.

Design, pattern, material, sewing method, etc.
Just like when making other items, I don't want to release anything until I'm satisfied with every aspect.

I've previously released a video summarizing bottom shapes, so I'd be happy if you could watch it.

As someone who loves bottoms, I've been a sarouel pants enthusiast for a long time.

I've worn many, from designer brands to those resembling ethnic costumes.

Suddenly, I started wondering why I loved them so much.

I realized that a complex was hidden there after all.

Admiration and the mirror's reflection

In June, men's fashion in Paris and beyond becomes buzzing. Numerous fashion houses, their associates, joint exhibitions of up-and-coming brands, and the Instagram feeds of fashion insiders become dazzling.

Around this time, invitations for events related to fashion week held in Japan in August also start to arrive.

I love fashion, and every time I see street snaps of overseas brands, their associates, and attendees, I think,
"That's unfair."
Beyond their sense of style, I'm overwhelmed by the sheer difference in their proportions.

Legs that seem to go on forever, well-defined bone structure.

A natural gift.

Anyone can enjoy fashion. It's not something to compare with others. It's not absolute, and it's about self-expression.

Fundamentally, that's true, but the reality is that a complex cannot be ignored.

What can we East Asians enjoy without worrying about that?

That's where sarouel pants come in.

With a deep crotch, the waistline becomes extremely ambiguous, and you can balance the look whether your top is long or oversized. While having individuality, the ample space in the crotch allows for easy incorporation of large pockets.

Coupled with the fabric's flow reminiscent of traditional Japanese clothing, isn't this perfect for our ethnicity?

Additionally, I want to solve the stresses I've had from wearing countless sarouel pants.

Identify existing problems.

  1. Heavy due to large amount of fabric
  2. Difficult to lift legs
  3. Cannot ride a bicycle
  4. Too hot due to large amount of fabric in the crotch area
Problem 1 can be solved by using lightweight materials as much as possible.

Problem 2 is solved by designing the pattern based on a splayed-leg position, as the design tends to connect the thighs.

Problem 3 is quite difficult. To prevent catching on the saddle, the deep crotch area must be eliminated, so we solved it by making the waist free for easy adjustment of wearing position, in combination with the solution for problem 2.

Problem 4 is solved by using highly breathable material, in combination with the solution for problem 1.

Furthermore, we used high-quality materials and premium parts to convey a sense of well-dressed attire. We also incorporated a 3-layer pocket utilizing the crotch space and large cargo pockets, resulting in our first product: HD Drop crotch cargo trousers.

After that, we collaborated with Swiss company Schoeller, using their material to create the Schoeller Dryskin Dropcrotch trousers, which have an even deeper crotch and a shape close to the final version of samples that had been repeatedly redesigned since before the brand's establishment.

Many other bottoms also reflect this philosophy, but I chose ones that are easy to understand.

Small stresses you notice while using things you like. These exist not only in clothing but also in daily life, and instead of ignoring them as "that's just how it is," I'm always thinking about how to solve them.

I want to create clothes that have designs I want to wear and are free from small stresses, so that people don't have to give up on fashion as they get older.
